Our Story

Like many parents, I fell into the screen trap. My children had tablets from around the age of one because, honestly, it felt like the easiest option at the time. They kept them quiet, still and entertained for long periods, especially during busy days as a single parent. But over time, I started noticing the tantrums, meltdowns and frustration whenever the screens were taken away. I also realised they often seemed disconnected - quietly staring at a screen instead of truly engaging with the world around them.

Last year, I made the decision to remove the tablets completely and focus instead on books, activity books and hands-on learning - and the difference was almost immediate.

Their speech improved, their confidence grew and they became so much happier, more curious and more excited about learning. Instead of blankly watching a screen, they were interacting, asking questions, turning pages, pointing things out and proudly showing me what they had learned or coloured in. They quickly started recognising colours, numbers, words and objects, and there was suddenly so much more imagination, conversation and connection between us.

One of the biggest changes for me was how much more we started doing together. Books became something exciting we shared, whether at home or out and about, and unlike screens, there were never the same meltdowns or battles when it was time to stop.

Discover Books was created from those real experiences. I’m not just selling books - I’m sharing the joy, learning and connection that books helped bring back into my home. In a world filled with screens and distractions, I wanted to create a place focused on thoughtful, screen-free learning, early development and helping little imaginations grow.
