A few days ago, I was watching my 3-year-old daughter play one of our musical books.

What happened next made me smile.

Instead of simply following along with the sounds in the book, she started singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and creating her own little musical performance. She wasn’t trying to get the notes perfect. She wasn’t worried about making mistakes. She was simply enjoying music.

As a parent, it was one of those small moments that reminds you just how powerful music can be for young children.

It wasn’t about learning an instrument.

It wasn’t about practising.

It was about confidence, creativity, imagination and joy.

That experience inspired me to reflect on the many benefits that music can bring to children from an early age.
